Marian Spore Bush: Life Afterlife, Works c. 1919–1945

I was thrilled when a researcher from Karma Gallery in New York City reached out to me about an upcoming exhibition on Marian Spore Bush. This week, the gallery officially announced the show, titled Marian Spore Bush: Life Afterlife, Works c. 1919–1945, which runs from July 9 through September 6. Organized by Bob Nickas, it marks the first major exhibition of her work in nearly 80 years. Marian had largely faded into obscurity until a significant group of her paintings resurfaced at a Slotin auction in 2015, sparking renewed interest in her work. According to posts on social media, the show will include nine paintings and twelve drawings. I’ll share more details as soon as I know which pieces are featured. So far the website features The Pawn Broker (Three Vultures), c. 1933–34.
