The Farewell was possibly misnamed in an article as Temple by the Sea and was described by The New York Times as the “most arresting in the collection” during her exhibition at the Knoedler Galleries in February 1933, with “rich interblending blues”, “burning yellows” and a “red that turns purple where sky meets a purplish sea.”
