Marian stayed with her brother James Spore in 1919 while he was acting lieutenant governor in Guam for a year. While there, she started to paint and couldn’t stop. These Memories of Guam paintings are a series done much later in 1942 and are quite small compared to her other works. Marian said paintings of Gaum were the only paintings that were done entirely by herself and not directed by “They.”
